Thank you for this informative site. I recently listened to a radio progrm on Mollavi hosted by Dr. Moshiri, in Ranio Iran. I learned that Rumi, before meeting Shams Tabrizi would move through different cities and as a profession he would knit(sew) belts (band tonban!). I have not been able to verify this, and would like to know if any has any verified or links to his profession. thank you.

Büyük mutasavvıf Mevlana Celaleddin-i Rumi Hazretlerinin hayatının büyüklüğünü anlatmak ve tanıtmak amacıyla yapılan her çalışma takdire şayandır. AHMET TOPRAK--KONYA

While searching for "the north-west country of Oddiyana",birthplace of Pema Jungne, who helped to establish the Buddhadharma in the now Chinese-occupiedTibet,one source says it could have been Balkh(most suggest the Swat valley ,now in Pakistan.)It was a wonderful surprise for me to find Jalaluddin Rumi here,as he was an inspiration to me in the1970's: Come, come, whoever you are...lover of leaving...even if you have broken your vow a thousand times!come! once again!come!(from memory). If you or anyone has any knowledge of the spiritual history of Balkh/Bactria,especially its connections with Buddhism,Dzogchen and the tantras,it would mean a great deal to me.May the living spirit of Rumi ,Pema and all authentic teachers of truth watch over, protect and inspire the troubled, warm-hearted, generous-spirited people of the beautiful land of Afghanistan at this time, and may Commander Ahmad Shah Masood, assassinated by suicide bombers on 9/9/01,the four Aghan UN workers slain today by the US,and all who have died tragically and suddenly through violent means,"rest in natural great peace. "in the words of the great Tibetan Dzogchen master,Nyoshul Khenpo Rinpoche.Thankyou for your heart-warming site. Pema

Dear Site Owner and the Mowlana lovers,, One of the guest book signers (below) named "Ahmet Toprak" from Konya (Ghoniye=the city Mowlana is buried in) has written some sentences in Turkish that I felt the need to translate them in English since although I believe myself not to be a good religion practitioner, but I somehow share/think the same way as he does! He believes that the woman pictures in the picture gallery and some of the pictures that exist in this site (although making it beautiful) does not have any significant relationship with the Mowlana's "Sufi" and "High level" way of life. They (pics) do not contribute to his endless meaningful poems! He says "Mowlana has been a Moslem and believed in the way of life of profit Moahmmad"!! Well there are many different theories about this,, but I just wanted to express his thoughts in English since I am sure that he does not speak English! I know Turkish so I just translated this for all to see what he really means...By the way I have been in Konya /Turkey and have visited Mowlana's Torbat...It is beautiful! Regards Ali A. I was so glad when I found this site. For a European it is natural to think of Shakespear when you want to mention an author, whose work is all-embracing, living for ever, filled with deep knowledge about man, with psykological knowledge, and over-flowing with rich thought and mental profundity. If somebody would find an equivalent author, of the same genius, within the Islamic cultural world, he probably would choose Jalâl al-Dîn Rûmî, "Mawlana" or "Mevlâna". Although he did not write dramas, but religious-didactic poetry, the above-mentioned criteria accord completely. Jalâl al-Dîn Rûmî must be considered one of the greatest poets in the world, and his extreme importance for spititual life in the Persian-Turkish world through all the centuries since the XIVth cannot be overestimated. "Âtesh-e 'eshq ast k'andar ney futâd/ jûshesh-e 'eshq ast k'andar mey futad".
